Which photo of my pet works best?
A sharp photo at eye level, with daylight coming from the front and the head large enough in frame. Shot from above or into the light works less well: that’s exactly when the eyes and the fur texture that make the portrait recognisable disappear.
Can my dog’s or cat’s name go on the tile?
Yes. The name is painted in underneath the portrait in the same Delft Blue style, so it doesn’t sit there as a separate label. A birth year or a short line fits too.
Does this work for a black dog or a black cat?
Yes, as long as there’s enough light on them. Delft Blue is one colour in different tones, so a portrait lives on contrast. Outdoors on an overcast day gives the finest detail in a dark coat; a photo in a dim room quickly turns into a silhouette.
Can I make a tile for a pet that has passed away?
