Where this saying comes from
A modern housekeeping joke with no folk pedigree, built on a mock-regretful shape: statement, then sympathy directed at the visitor rather than the host. The apology never quite arrives, and that is the point.
When to give it
A housewarming present with a wink, best for people whose kitchen table is permanently half laundry. Also lands well with new parents, who have stopped pretending the floor was ever going to stay visible.
About this design
Four short lines need room, so the corners are left empty and a rope ring does the framing instead. The narrow handwritten letters keep it sounding like a note scribbled on the way out.
