Tile saying
Homesweet home
Love & homePossibly the most-embroidered phrase in the English language, and it has outlasted every fashion that tried to retire it. Four syllables that mean: the journey is over, hang your coat up.
- Baked into the ceramic, not printed on top. Colourfast and waterproof.
- Arrived damaged? You get a free replacement.
Where this saying comes from
Genuinely traceable — the words come from the song “Home! Sweet Home!”, written by John Howard Payne for the 1823 opera Clari, or the Maid of Milan, and set to music by Henry Bishop. It entered household use almost immediately.
When to give it
A housewarming that calls for something classic rather than clever, or a gift for someone who has just come back from living abroad. It never needs explaining, which is exactly why people still choose it.
About this design
Delft flower corners inside a painted circle — the oldest combination in the collection — for a phrase two centuries old. The upright stately serif suits words that were sung long before they were framed.
